Biography
Makina Moses (she/they) is a rootworker, educator, writer, and doctoral student in English at the University of Chicago who received her B.A. in English and Linguistics from Emory University. Their work focuses on the metaphysics of Blackness and Transitivity, Afro-diasporic spiritualities, and Blackness and Indigeneity as relational categories of being. Makina’s intention as an educator is to cultivate a teaching environment where speculation and curiosity abound alongside an ethics of relation that destabilizes the archetype of the “private intellectual”. In doing so, she aims to embolden and empower students who have been systematically disempowered in the classroom.
She is also the administrative coordinator for Trac(e)ing Relations, an incubator engaging the intersections of Blackness and Indigeneity in the Americas.
