|Description||"Writing the City,” a multimedia talk and performance focused on urban politics and landscape in the San Francisco Bay Area |
David Buuck will discuss his founding of BARGE (the Bay Area Research Group in Enviro-aesthetics), a multi-platform art project that combines site-specific art and performance with investigations of militarized and gentrifying urban landscapes. He will connect this work with more recent writing, activism, and aesthetic challenges that come out of Occupy Oakland and the militant struggles over public space in the city. The aim of the presentation is to pose a variety of artistic, literary, and political questions and to offer up tactics for engaged writers and artists confronting the vexed and multi-layered social and ecological conditions of contemporary urban landscapes.
