Biography

Jake Fournier's dissertation, "Failed Instruments: Poetry and Abolition in Antebellum America," examines the influence of abolitionist reform poetics on the emergence of the modern lyric. His current research project, "Empires of the Mind," explores the compensatory exchanges between poetic vision and imperial power in the North American West. His own poetry has appeared recently in the journals Lana TurnerAnnulet, and the Partisan Hotel.
